“... w ill be joined by a Bolt EUV all-electric crossover in 2021"

I thought the Bolt already was a crossover though? It’s between the CX-3 and CX-5 in height. It being as narrow as the CX-3, but shorter in length, just adds to the top heavy look that makes it look crossover-esque.

Or does crossover literally just mean they added some of that disgusting body cladding to the wheel arches?

Unable to take Tesla down through surrogates, the auto industry is going to have to compete.

So what I’m seeing is we will see a CUV version of the Bolt next year... and a whole lot of ‘not much else’ until 2025.

I’m glad they’re using Cadillac to introduce high end/high performance BEVs.

In my view, instead of wasting money developing the CT6 as well as that Blackwing V8, Cadillac should have made a high performance BEV .

Better late than never I suppose.

I know this is in jest, but I would absolutely love seeing a CUV sitting at exactly the same height as the “regular” car.

Corporate egos won’t let that happen.

Infiniti QX30 and the Mercedes GLA, to start. Hyundai Kona, as well. Maybe even the newest Ford Escape. I’m sure there are some others...

They’re converging into proper hatchbacks.

Kia Niro is one of the more obvious ones:

If it's only confined to North America is it still huge? Seems to me it might just be of regional significance...

The Konas and GLAs have definitely made me do double takes as I realized how short they actually are. It’s basically just the extra inch or two of ground clearance that differentiates them from a “regular” hatchback, and gives them a taller appearance.

I really remember sitting in my Magnum and seeing a GLA45, and noticing that I was practically dead even with it on height.  That was the moment when I decided to give up on classifying some cars.

And yet there are at least three other continents of similar or greater size where this huge new plan is largely irrelevant.

Yep, I think we’re at the point now where the only difference between a hatch/wagon and a crossover is:

1. It must have at least 6" ground clearance AND

2. It must have AWD available

Without those two, it’s really gray area.

Speaking of the Magnum, when they canceled it I realized the revised unibody Durango really just took its place. It’s not the same, but close enough for most buyers -- RWD, V8, plenty of room for passengers.
